Exhibition held in Galleria Uusi Kipin\u00e4 \/ Kenno, Lahti, Finland 18 September to 6 October 2024 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The image on the screen feels like a piece of printmaking \u2014 but it\u2019s alive, slowly changing. Cityscapes, both familiar and unfamiliar, blend together in strange ways, merging with other landscapes and even abstract elements. There\u2019s something dreamlike in the transformation. You\u2019re looking at a scene, and suddenly you\u2019re somewhere else. But wait \u2014 here\u2019s a knob you can turn to go back to where you just were, or to jump into a completely different view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prints on the wall were created from the same process \u2014 glimpses of a partly abstract, dreamlike world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On another screen, the artist\u2019s self-portrait is looking for its shape. Different poses, expressions, and angles blend together. At times, the image is just a smudge \u2014 which is then slowly forming into recognizable, expressive features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Views of Lahti, the city where the exhibition was held, appear in the images too. It\u2019s my birthplace, though I moved away when I was five. What remains from early 1960s Lahti is a handful of dreamlike memories. For this exhibition, I wandered through familiar places with a camera to bring those into the dreamworld of these unstable views.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
