Cats of Kerava

During the renovation of Kerava Asemansilta in 2018–2019, a participatory urban art project was carried out. Cat figures designed by children and youth from Keravan kuvataidekoulu (Kerava Art School) were incorporated into the bridge’s steel railings. The drawings, created by participants aged 5–18, were cut directly into the metal.

In addition, three illuminated cat-shaped gates were installed on the bridge, serving as places for rest and gathering.

The project was commissioned and implemented by Keravan Kaupunkitekniikka (Kerava City Engineering). Saara Mesterton coordinated the planning and guided the children’s work together with the art school’s teaching team, including Eevi Kilponen and Miia Kallio.

The renovated Kerava Asemansilta was officially opened in January 2019.
