I explore different aspects of the human condition: fragility, limitations, and vulnerability, as well as strength, the pursuit of beauty, and harmony. My art is driven by a desire to understand humanity’s place between life and death.
Colour plays a central role in my paintings, and my work moves between abstraction and figuration.
My work is influenced by Bauhaus modernism and, above all, by the colour thinking of Josef Albers. Marimekko’s bold, linear patterns also left a lasting impression on me during my school years, when Marimekko T-shirts made the world appear as if it were moving in stripes.
Recently, my abstract oil paintings have been complemented by images created with tools developed by artist and researcher Hannu Töyrylä, introducing an ambiguous narrative element into the abstract compositions.
Alongside painting, I also create performance videos. Through performance, I explore the questions and perspectives that initially draw me to a subject. Painting, animation, or other visual elements are always part of the work, and the video often includes a song that I perform myself.
